Mt. Evans 7/24/09

Mom and Dad came out in July for a visit. We did a 14'er, which is a 14,000ft peak. This one was Mt. Evans. It had a little advantage of a drive up most of the way. You still had to climb a rocky trail at that elevation and decreased air.

Dodger sitting on my lap with Mom and lots of other people!
View to the south. Park County.
Mom and Dad and Danny Boy.

Mtn Goat on top of Mt. Evans.
Elevation marker - 14,264ft.
Mom and I and the dogs!

More goats-view of front range-Denver.

August 2009

This was a very steep hike we did in August. There was hardly a trail and we just hiked straight up it.
STEEP!
I thought there was some really cool looking downed wood. This one was burned a long time ago.

Lake Dillon and Frisco in the foreground.

Marc and Loki eating lunch at a great place on top out of the wind.

Dodger Dog!
My new kicks! They are red and bright but they were great on their maiden voyage-no blisters!
Ten Mile Range in the background-more cool wood.
Dodger and Loki both had their heads in the wood stump holes. It was hilarious!

2009 Garden and Produce

I love beets. Maybe next year I will remember to spread them out more in my garden so that they will grow bigger. It's such a learning experience!

Our tomatoes are grown inside. This was my very first of the year! I have about 30-40 ready to turn red.
Sugar snap peas are going crazy right now. The frost has been making some of them look speckled.
More broccoli.

In the Process of re-staining the fence- going with the darker color.

UPDATES

Finally updated blog. Did a lot of great things over the spring, but didn't get it all on camera. Marc and I just did a bike tour of Colorado and had to update with some beautiful pictures. The seven day trip was a little too long with a little too many people. I am glad I did it, but don't think I could be that close with that many people again! Will post soon with updates on the gigantic garden!!

BICYCLE TOUR OF COLORADO

JUNE 21ST THRU JUNE 27TH
DAY ONE: GLENWOOD SPRINGS TO HOTCHKISS-82 MILES

Barry and Marc in the beginning.

Riding up Hwy 82 into Marble
Pretty waterfall. I took all the opportunities to stop going up McClure Pass!

At the base of the pass, one of the State Patrol that came along and kept us in line. Barry trying not to get into trouble. They were all really nice and were with us the whole trip.

Top of McClure Pass. Fresh snow from the night before.

One of the rest stops that were filled with fruit, pb&j's, pretzels, nila wafers, gatorade and water.

Deer I saw in the trees. Yet another reason to take a break.
Hard to see this but it is of two or three people on horses trying to get the cattle across the river. Straight out of a western movie!

One of my personal breaks for beauty. The flowers were beautiful and I loved the canoe in the background.
Meeting up with Barry and Kate for a much needed Mtn. Dew!

This was in Crawford. Kinda cool contrast in ways of transportation.

Camping at the Hotchkiss K-8 school.
This was actually one of the spacious camping areas, tents got closer in some other towns.

The Massage Center. I visited often.

DAY TWO: HOTCHKISS TO GRAND JUNCTION-95MI.

Starting up the Grand Mesa
The valley floor we came up from in Hotchkiss.

One of the many beautiful lakes seen on top of the Grand Mesa.

A rare sighting of Marc.

On the way down from the Grand Mesa into Grand Junction.

The water bar, where everyone filled up water bottles.

This crazy guy did the whole thing on a Schwinn 3 speed Sting Ray! Some interesting characters at this ride.

DAY THREE: GRAND JUNCTION TO MONTROSE-65Mi.

When we are in Grand Junction Marc and I like to stop at this great breakfast place our friend Doug took us too. We had breakfast there and finally got to meet Lois! Had a great breakfast before a long boring ride to Montrose.

The love!!

Marc just wanting to ride. Waiting at another aid station.

One of the volunteers was riding this thing all over, pretty cool purple.

Montrose camping. Barry and Kate.
Not many pictures of the ride because the scenery was just so boring!!! Hwy 50 all the way.

DAY FOUR MONTROSE TO CRESTED BUTTE-87Mi.

Rode all the way from the horizon!

This was a congested road and steep!

Rumble strips on the side of the road made it hard for all the people to pass me.

My good luck, be happy butterfly-I really needed her at this point in the game. She matched my bike too!

DAY FIVE: OFF DAY IN CRESTED BUTTE-YIPPPEEE

We stayed at our friend Suzy's for two nights and it was great! We were away from town a bit and therefore away from the hordes of people on this tour. It was a nice day off with a massage and a hot tub.
Barry, Kate, Marc and Suzy on the way to a Mexican Feast(margaritas included)

Cleaning bikes on day off.
DAY SIX: CRESTED BUTTE TO BUENA VISTA 73Mi.

Cool long morning shadow. I took this while riding too.

Going into Taylor Canyon.
Taylor River
Taylor Resevoir with clouds hanging around.

Barry and Kate at Aid station
Barry, Kate and Marc riding the dirt road behind me. I took this picture over my head.

Tried to include myself, turned out a bit blurry.

Climbing up Cottonwood Pass on the dirt road.
Storm coming in, getting a bit colder. Rode from the valley below.

Going Down!!! My favorite part. I hit my highest speed coming down this pass. 55mph!! I have a photo somewhere of it, but again things are not in great sequence.

Camping getting a little closer!!

Zinc lips!
Enjoying some beers with Kate, Barry, Lisa and others.
YEEEE HAWWWW!!!!!!

DAY SEVEN: "LAST DAY" BUENA VISTA  TO GLENWOOD SPRINGS 105Mi.

Twin Lakes on the way up Independence Pass

Crazy Sting Ray Guy!
another great place for a rest!

Heading up there.
Beryl would be near the top of every pass and cheer everybody on!! close to 2,000 people. I had to get my picture with her, she really helped my attitude and got me to the top, alot!

The road we came up to Independece Pass.

Getting ready to go down!

Finally down to Glenwood Springs. Had to stop to take picture of Mt. Sopris that Marc and I climbed last summer. See earlier posts.
